 I. Non-Substantive Curriculum Change: Kinesiology, Leisure and Sport Science. Proposal is to delete PEXS 4467/5467 from the curriculum.

This course is required for one of the tracks in the KLSS M.A. program. In its place, the program will require an existing course, PEXS 5655. The subcommittee recommends approval with the editorial changes.

Students must be currently enrolled graduate teaching assistants or teaching associates. A letter of nomination from the Graduate Coordinator that includes a description of teaching responsibilities is required, and it must be cosigned by the Department Chair. The application deadline is the first Monday in March (e.g., 03/03/08). The awards consist of a plaque and a monetary honorarium of $500 each. An email with detailed instructions will be sent in the next week or two.

 

The annual Graduate Student Research Grant application deadline is December 1. Competitive awards of up to $500 are available to ETSU graduate students engaged in thesis or dissertation research. Twenty-three applicants were evaluated this year. The fund is in good shape and will be able to support more than eight applicants. A detailed update will be provided at the next meeting.

 

Banner training will begin in the next two weeks in January for staff and coordinators. This will be headed by Teresa Williams and twenty-three persons will be participating. The IMB self-service training will begin in March 2008 and will be announced regarding the exact dates. The application process is going well per Dr. Beck.

 

I. The Quillen Scholarship, Outstanding Capstone, Thesis and Dissertation Awards, and Research Grant awards will begin in March 2008 and the revised form will be sent soon. Dr. Tedesco volunteered to chair the Outstanding Thesis in Art/Humanities committee and Dr. Scott Champney volunteered to chair the Outstanding Dissertation Committee. Other committee chairs will be determined by the next meeting. Dr. McIntosh suggested exploring the possibility of holding the awards ceremony at the Culp Center-Tennessee Room since the number of awards and participants has grown and exceeds what can be accommodated in the President’s Conference room. There was consensus to look into this possibility.
