Special Collections is a permanent collection of non-circulating books and print material that supports research on Appalachia. It consists of more than 14,000 volumes that include contemporary and out-of-print works, with an emphasis on regional history, social reform, economic development, and folklife. Works on the environment, politics, religion, and literature are also included. These materials can be found through the Sherrod Library catalog but accessed only in the Archives' Reading Room.
