Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine
Founded in 1984, Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine, published twice-annually in June and December, presents a fresh, revealing picture
of life in Appalachia, past and present, with engaging articles, personal essays,
fiction, poetry, reviews, and photography.
After extensive consideration, Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine is moving to an all-digital format. The new format will allow us to reach a much wider audience and to include more content, including audiovisual resources. These changes will ensure that Now and Then will continue to be relevant for years to come. The released issue “The Future of Appalachia” (Vol. 32, No. 2 Winter 2016) was the last print edition of the magazine. We will take a brief hiatus before relaunching Now & Then as an online-only magazine. Please continue to check this webpage in the coming months for updates as we prepare to release our first online version of Now & Then. Thank you for your support and we hope that you will continue to read Now & Then in its new format.
