Biography
Dr. Kimberly Wilson earned her doctoral degree from the University of Maryland-College
Park. She has conducted fieldwork in Taiwan as a Fulbright Fellow and in China as
a Boren Fellow. Her current research focuses on how domestic politics and institutions
shape territorial and maritime disputes, particularly in the South China Sea and East
China Sea. Her research also explores how foreign governments attempt to influence
democratic politics in East Asia.

Teaching Interests
Dr. Wilson teaches courses in comparative politics and international relations. Specifically, she teaches Introduction to Comparative Politics, Chinese Politics, International Relations of East Asia, and Peace, Security, and Human Development. She also regularly offers Introduction to Political Science.
Research Interests
Dr. Wilson's research focuses on the domestic sources of foreign policy, most notably how the beliefs of citizens collectively shape government policies in the context of territorial and maritime disputes. In a similar vein, Dr. Wilson is interested in how government actions shape citizen beliefs, such as through messaging on territorial disputes, but also in the context of fake news and rumors. Political parties, both in democratic and authoritarian contexts, regularly serve as a vehicle for both amalgamating and influencing citizen views, and are therefore a central focus of her research.
