Make an Impact on Human Health and Safety with an Environmental Health Degree

 

Learn how environmental factors can impact human health by earning your B.S. in Environmental Health from East Tennessee State University.

Through this program, you will gain extensive scientific, technical, and behavioral knowledge in environmental health. You will also gain valuable skills to investigate, evaluate, and eliminate environmental conditions that may be harmful to people or communities.

After studying the health problems and needs of the community, you will put what you’ve learned into practice through hands-on experience. You will plan and implement control programs in a variety of areas including ambient noise, hazardous substances, solid waste, land use, pests, and housing.

You’ll be prepared for a career that protects the health and safety of the people in our region and beyond.

The BSEH from ETSU was the first program in the nation to be professionally accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection and Accreditation Council.

What Can You Do with an Environmental Health Degree?

 

With a BSEH from ETSU, you can pursue a career as an environmental health specialist, environmental consultant, public health inspector, water quality specialist, environmental analyst, waste management specialist, and more.  

Examples of environmental and occupational health and safety sciences projects include: 

  • Maintaining a safe supply of food and drinking water 
  • Discovering the mechanisms of environmentally related diseases such as insects, rodents, and other animal carriers of disease 
  • Treating and disposing of solid and toxic waste 
  • Reducing air, water, food, and noise pollution 
  • Ensuring safe schools, playgrounds, and workplaces by controlling physical, biological, and chemical hazards
