Dr. K. Joseph Shrestha is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Surveying at East Tennessee State University (ETSU), where he teaches and conducts research in construction and transportation engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University, his M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and his B.E. in Civil Engineering from the Institute of Engineering in Nepal.
Dr. Shrestha's research focuses on applying artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics to construction and transportation engineering challenges, including construction cost and schedule estimation, construction project bundling, and Geographic Information System (GIS)-based decision-making tools. He has worked on more than a dozen funded research projects for agencies including the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and various state Departments of Transportation from Iowa, Montana, California, South Dakota, and Nevada. His recent work includes developing cost prediction models and project bundling algorithms for TDOT pavement resurfacing programs. He is the author of more than three dozen peer-reviewed journal papers, peer-reviewed conference papers, and technical reports. He serves as a reviewer for several leading journals in construction and transportation engineering, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Construction Engineering and Management. He chaired the Digital Project Delivery Committee of ASCE Construction Institute from 2022 to 2026, and he led the development of ETSU’s M.S. Concentration in Digital Construction and Data Analytics. He is the recipient of the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Proceedings Best Paper Award and ETSU CBAT's Outstanding Research Award.
