I was on the faculty of Louisiana State University for 26 years. Before that, I had teaching assistantships while I worked on my MS in Zoology and Physiology and PhD in Curriculum and Instruction - Science Education degrees there. I taught as a faculty member in the Zoology and Physiology Department and in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. When I retired, I was an Endowed Professor at the LSU Laboratory School. I have taught everything from 7th graders to PhD candidates along with pre-service and in-service teachers. I also tutored student athletes on most of the teams at LSU. Most importantly, I got my BS in Biological Sciences here at ETSU and teaching here has been a life-long dream.
Research Interests:
I did my MS in avian anatomy and wrote my thesis on the lingual apparatus of the Snowy Egret.
I did my PhD in biology education, specifically ecology and evolution education. My dissertation was about how students used evidence, especially when understanding evolution. I had a minor in Zoology for my PhD. I have published about evolution education in national and international journals but left research behind to concentrate on raising my kids and teaching.
Courses:
- Biology Non-Majors II Lecture (BIOL 1020)
