What exactly is the Criminal Justice Society?
The Criminal Justice Society is a student organization intended for anyone interested in law, criminal justice, current issues, etc.
Meetings:
We have meetings every other week during the semester, often with guest speakers. In the past, speakers have included the FBI, TBI, K-9 Officers, Campus Security, Sullivan County S.O.R.T. team, child abuse investigators, local police departments, and morel
Field Trips:
The Criminal Justice Society also takes par-tin field trips. Our major trips have included a trip to Nashville to tour the TBI facility and view three autopsies by the State Medical Examiner's Office. We have also toured the law enforcement training academy in Donnelson, TN and the FBI's training academy in Quantico, Virginia. We have also toured Death Row at Riverbend State Correctional Facility and the Dr. Bass's Body Farm in Knoxville, TN. Our most recent trip was to Red Onion Supermax Correctional Facility in Virginia. Our group has also attended Tennessee State Parole hearings and toured Northeast Correctional Facility.
Charitable work:
The Criminal Justice Society periodically helps volunteer and/or do charitable work. In Fall 2009, we collected clothing items for the Johnson City area homeless population.
