Dr. Michael Allen earned his Ph.D. at Saint Louis University and started his career at ETSU in 2006. He has published dozens of articles and (so far) two books. Civil Disobedience in Global Perspective: Decency and Dissent over Borders, Inequities, and Government Secrecy was published in 2017. Rethinking the American Animal Rights Movement was co-authored with Emily Patterson-Kane and Jennifer Edie and published in 2022. Dr. Allen is currently working on a manuscript that explores the political philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr. Allen teaches courses on political philosophy, social, global, and health justice, as well as philosophy law. In 2023, he received the College of Arts and Science Distinguished Research Award.
