M.Ed. in Reading
Everyone admitted to the program seeks an M.Ed. in Reading. Candidates also have the opportunity to earn the PreK-12 Reading Specialist Endorsement. Candidates also select a path that leads to the PreK-12 English as a Second Language Endorsement OR the Special Education Interventionist, K-8/6-12 license. The Masters in Reading degree is designed to provide the necessary educational experiences for persons interested in:
- working with children or adults,
- assuming leadership roles in reading education,
- becoming a reading supervisor,
- teaching students during response to intervention,
- serving as a reading tutor,
- coordinating a reading program, or
- supervising reading programs.
Adding Endorsements
To add the Reading Specialist Endorsement, graduates must:
- Hold a valid teaching license,
- Successfully pass the designated coursework,
- Pass the TN required Praxis exams for Reading Specialists, and
- Have 2 years of teaching experience.
To add the PreK-12 ESL Endorsement, graduates must:
- Hold a valid teaching license,
- Successfully pass the designated coursework, and
- Pass the TN Required Praxis exams for PreK-12 ESL Endorsement.
To add the Special Education Interventionist K-8/6-12 License, graduates must:
- Hold a valid teaching license,
- Successfully pass the designated coursework, and
- Pass the TN Required Praxis exams for Special Education Interventionist K-8/6-12.
