Mary V. Jordan retired from East Tennessee State University in 2018 as the Special Assistant to the President for Equity and Diversity. During her thirty plus years of service, she dedicated and devoted her time to create programs and support an environment that treated students, faculty, and staff with dignity and respect.
Under her leadership, many programs and services were developed and implemented to recruit and retain diverse students. Some of the programs that were established included Discover ETSU, QUEST for Success, the Diversity Scholarship Program, and Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Diverse Scholars. Out of all of her achievements, the highlight of Ms. Jordan’s career is the creation of the Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center that is named in her honor.
