Access Security Awareness Training (will launch KnowBe4)
Experts agree that most data breaches result from human error. Those errors can make us victims of social engineering attacks such as phishing/smishing, spoofing, baiting, identity theft, fraud, and extortion. Cybercriminals know that people are the weakest security link in most organizations and they are relentless in their unlawful attempts to steal credentials, ransom data, re-route paychecks, and otherwise defraud us. It is the responsibility of each of us to protect university data as well as our own personal confidential data.
ETSU policy and the State of Tennessee mandate that all ETSU employees complete Security Awareness Training on an annual basis. The 2024 and 2025 training focus on social engineering and business email compromise attacks. Use the training to help you recognize common attack methods and avoid scams. Practicing safe information security habits at home and at work protects your information and important university systems and data.
The 2024 and 2025 Security Awareness Training each consist of one module and will take 15-20 minutes to complete. You will view a series of short videos and answer a few questions as you progress. A brief quiz at the end of the module will give you an idea of how prepared you are to thwart a social engineering attack. We know you have a busy schedule and so intermittent reminders will remind you to complete this important training. ITS is working with KnowBe4, so you will be redirected to the KnowBe4 site when accessing the training.
Please take time today to complete the training. Any questions can be directed to Security@etsu.edu. If you are ever uncertain about the legitimacy of a request, or feel your information has been compromised, please contact the ITS Help Desk.
