Common Read

The Common Read brings the campus community together to read and discuss one text and its themes.

Provost Kimberly D. McCorkle announced the 2025-26 Common Read on May 9, 2025:

I am so pleased to share that our Common Read for the upcoming academic year will be The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green. This insightful and moving collection of essays invites us to reflect on the complexities of being human in our current era, blending personal narrative with cultural commentary. I invite all faculty and staff to read the book over the summer and consider how it might resonate within your courses, programs, or conversations across campus. Whether incorporated into a course or simply shared among colleagues and students, The Anthropocene Reviewed offers rich opportunities for engagement as we prepare to begin a new year together.

Thank you to our outstanding and thoughtful Common Read Committee (Joy Fulkerson, Dr. Scott Honeycutt, Scott Jeffress, Blair Jones, Dr. Karen Keith, Tricia Korade, Dr. Tony Pittarese, and Alexis Vance) for their work to select the book and to promote it over the coming year. We are planning a special event to launch the Common Read in the fall. Consider adding The Anthropocene Reviewed to your summer reading list. We hope to welcome John Green to our campus next year to discuss his work.

More information coming soon on the launch of the 2025-26 Common Read.
