Experiential Learning Opportunities
Experiential Learning
Experiential learning is defined as learning that occurs through applied, hands-on experiences paired with intentional, guided reflection (Kolb, 1984). These structured experiences enable students to connect theory to practice by integrating conceptual knowledge, application, and critical reflection.
At East Tennessee State University, experiential learning may include, but is not limited to, research, community engagement, internships, study abroad, leadership in student organizations, and service opportunities. While many of these activities involve student engagement, engagement alone does not necessarily qualify as experiential learning. To qualify as experiential learning, an experience must include purposeful application of knowledge and structured reflection that advances student learning and learning outcomes.
