The Counseling Center supports social justice, diversity and inclusion. We are dismayed by the recent and ongoing race based violent tragedies. We recognize that they may be especially injurious to members of our Black and African-American community. We know the effects that prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination have on mental health and wellbeing. The color of your skin should never take away from your safety. We are committed to affirming and providing care for all of our students who have been directly or vicariously impacted by these trauma inducing events. We encourage you to contact our office if you (or an ETSU student you know) would like support with coping and healing.

ETSU has been monitoring the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and preparing contingency plans as the virus spreads across the state of Tennessee, our nation, and the world. The situation is changing quickly, and the Counseling Center will follow guidelines established by the university to ensure public health protocol is met. Additionally, decisions being made across campus are informed by local, national, and international public health agencies. Please view their websites for the latest information.

BUCS PRESS 2 (423) 439-4841 then press 2
BucsPress2 is a 24-hour mental health help line for ETSU Students. It provides FREE, confidential crisis counseling over the phone. It is staffed 24/7/365 by counseling professionals under contract with The Counseling Center.
ONGOING COUNSELING SERVICES AVAILABLE BY PHONE/VIDEO CHAT VIA ZOOM
The Counseling Center will continue to provide telehealth services to students (phone or zoom). *To receive counseling services you must be enrolled for Fall semester.*
Beginning July 1, 2020, counseling center staff will be working a staggered in-office/remote work schedule. Although some staff will be in the office, they will continue to provide telehealth only due to the ongoing concerns associated with COVID-19. We encourage all students to inquire about services via phone (423-439-3333) or email (counselingcenter@etsu.edu). If any students, faculty, or staff do come into the counseling center space for any reason, we require you to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. If anyone has questions regarding this, please call or email our office.
Senior staff will also be available to provide consultation to help you find local resources (if a student is still residing outside of TN) and, of course, our 24/7/365 telephone mental health helpline BucsPress2 (423-439-4841, press “2”) will remain an option for all students.

We cannot provide ongoing telehealth services to students not in Tennessee because of legal (license) issues. Students who are NOT in Tennessee are urged to seek services close to home. We are able to provide brief phone consults to help connect you with local resources in your area. Please call 423-439-3333 or call Bucs Press 2.

If you are in crisis or experiencing a life-threatening emergency please call 911. If you are experiencing a NON-life-threatening emotional crisis and wish to speak to a licensed counselor, you may choose to access BUCSPress2, our 24-hour Mental Health Helpline by dialing (423) 439-4841 and “pressing 2” when prompted.

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
Cover your cough with the bend of an elbow or tissue.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
Maintain a distance of at least 3 feet from people who are coughing or sneezing. When you are sick, keep your distance from others.
