M.S. in Technology, Robotics, Automation, and Instrumentation Systems Concentration

The Masters of Science in Engineering Technology with a Concentration in Robotics, Automation, and Instrumentation systems is designed to provide students with an understanding of the production and operations interfaces between electrical and mechanical environments in the manufacturing setting. The curriculum will provide course work that supports the integration of current manufacturing standards.

Since there is increasing industry demand for graduates who can work in an interdisciplinary engineering environment that supports automation and interfacing of control systems to support advanced manufacturing topologies. The degree provides courses in advanced robotic manufacturing processes including vision-based systems, and instrumentation and smart sensor interfacing to support the manufacturing process. The program covers design and modeling of electromechanical systems such as positioning of robotic arms, pick and place technology using vision, recognition and feedback sensing, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and interfacing sensors. 

Class work will include both high and low level languages such as FPGA programming and platform based control systems such as LabVIEW, and WINCAPS. Support courses include an understanding of manufacturing process methodologies, solid modeling, project management and accessing and utilizing innovative technologies.

Student Spotlight

Meet Darak Nanto

Darak graduated with his Master's in Engineering Technology and a certificate in Business Administration. While at ETSU, Darak invented the Eco Smart Can which helps reduce excess waste by monitoring the trash level in public trashcans. Darak was able to create a prototype of his invention by utilizing the resources and equipment available in his program's labs, applying the knowledge he learned in the classroom, and winning startup funding through the college's iBucs competition. Darak's future plans are to develop a company to market and sell the Eco Smart Can.

Admission Requirements and Program of Study

Admissions Requirements
Applicants must meet all the requirements for admission to both the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies and:
1. Submit a personal statement of 1-2 pages (double spaced, minimum 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins, minimum 12 point font) describing your industrial work experience and/or academic course work, and why you seek entry to the program. This statement will be reviewed by the faculty to support admission decisions to the program.
2. Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following areas: Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, or Physics or other technical related area.
3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for all attempted course work for the Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree described in item 2 above.
Preference will be given to students who have graduated from an ABET accredited engineering/engineering technology program or international equivalent; or have relevant industrial experience in the degree areas of study.
