Welcome to East Tennessee State University’s academic health sciences center (AHSC), also called ETSU Health.
To qualify as an AHSC, an institution must have a college of medicine and at least
one other health profession school or program, and either own or be affiliated with
a major health system. Currently, ETSU is one of fewer than 125 institutions worldwide
who are members of the Association of Academic Health Centers.
With five health sciences colleges – including Quillen College of Medicine, Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, College of Public Health, and the College of Health Sciences – ETSU Health has an extensive list of offerings for students who are interested in a career in the health professions. Within these five colleges are more than 40 health sciences programs and more than 4,000 students who are pursuing careers in some of the fastest- growing medical professions.
The name ETSU Health encompasses the educational, clinical, and research pursuits of our AHSC.
ETSU Health prepares the future health care workforce and is a major provider of primary, specialty, and tertiary care throughout the region. With 30 clinical sites and more than 250 health care providers, ETSU Health is on the front lines of efforts to improve the health of Northeast Tennessee by offering leading-edge health care in dozens of specialties and working with health care providers such as Ballad Health, Frontier Health, the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and other care delivery sites across the region.
We are also on front lines of interprofessional education, which prepares health care professionals who can work as part of a collaborative care team of professionals to provide the most comprehensive and efficient care possible. The changing health care environment increasingly demands innovation and integration of health service delivery that is best achieved by a team of highly trained professionals working together with a focus on the patient, the patient’s family, and the community. When students enter one of our programs, they learn roles and responsibilities of all health care team members and how to communicate effectively to provide the highest quality patient care.
Not only do we teach students, we give them the space to learn and train in health care teams. Our Interprofessional Research and Education Center, Bishop Hall, brings together students from across the health sciences disciplines to train in state-of-the-art simulation labs and learning spaces.
The research we conduct at ETSU Health is also focused on translating knowledge gained from scientific and clinical studies to improving the way health care is delivered to the patient and populations. We have several major research centers at ETSU Health, focusing on myriad health issues such as rural health, addiction, women's health, and cardiovascular disease.
We invite you to explore our college sites and learn more about the opportunities available at ETSU Health.
