Working Group
About APPOMET
APPOMET is a well-established working group at ETSU. It is composed of over a dozen faculty and student members from the Colleges of Public Health, Health Sciences, Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Arts and Sciences. Since Spring 2012, the group has met on a monthly basis to pursue opportunities for research, education, outreach, and development in the areas of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes. Over the years, the group has been very productive and has secured multiple internal grants (including Research Development Committee grants and Student-Faculty Collaborative grants) and an external grant from the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) to study obesity and metabolic diseases amongst the at risk population of Northeast Tennessee.
Team members have published together in high-impact journals and have made multiple presentations at local, regional, and national conferences. APPOMET has also trained undergraduate and graduate students in studies involving obesity and metabolic diseases. The group has also previously interacted with and provided expertise to Wellmont on one of their studies involving diabetic patients.
