Graduate Programs
Students interested in graduate studies in Geosciences may elect to participate in either the Geospatial Analysis concentration, Paleontology concentration, or our Certificate Program in Geographic Systems.
This program has a preferred deadline of January 1 for consideration for departmental financial support, such as appointments to Graduate Assistantship and Tuition Scholarship positions. Applications for program entry will be accepted, for a FALL starting semester, until February 1 for International applicants and July 1 for domestic applicants.
Geospatial Analysis
Admission Requirements
In addition to the requirements of the Graduate School, students applying for admission to graduate study in Geosciences must:
- have a bachelor’s degree in a geosciences (or related) discipline;
- have a 3.0 overall grade point average (4.0 system) in undergraduate course work;
- have three letters of recommendation submitted on their behalf from previous professors or employers;
- submit a two-page letter that discusses career goals and specific academic and research interests ; and
- submit a resume.
All application materials must be sent to the ETSU Graduate School. The Graduate School will forward applications to the Department of Geosciences once the application is complete. GIS Certificate
Admissions:
The admissions criteria set by the ETSU Graduate School will be followed.
The Geographic Information Systems Graduate Certificate can be completed online,
in person, or through a combination of both learning styles.
Articulation Agreement: A student who completes the Graduate Certificate in GIS and later wishes to pursue the M.S. in Geosciences may transfer all 12 credits into the master’s program with approval of the M.S. Geosciences graduate coordinator and the Graduate School. All transfer credit, however, must meet GPA requirements and must be within the six-year matriculation limit.
