Content Warning: Cabaret explores sensitive themes, including anti-Semitism, Nazi-ism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, abortion, and sexual content. This production includes depictions of domestic violence, physical violence, and Nazi and Holocaust imagery. Additionally, a fog machine will be used in this performance.
From Concord Theatricals, "In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish."

The ETSU Department of Theatre and Dance acknowledges that we join in the practice of theatre on the ancestral lands of the Creek, Cherokee (East), Shawnee, and Yuchi peoples. As a step toward revering the truth and achieving healing and reconciliation with those indigenous groups, we honor with gratitude the land itself and the Creek, Cherokee (East), Shawnee, and Yuchi nations. This acknowledgement does not take the place of authentic relationships with indigenous communities but serves as a first step in honoring the legacy of the land. The ETSU Department of Theatre and Dance is committed to helping raise awareness of indigenous peoples on our campus, in our classrooms, and within our theatrical productions.
