The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize outstanding performance in students currently enrolled in the undergraduate program (B.S., Nutrition and Dietetics) or planning to enter the graduate program (M.S., Clinical Nutrition)in the Department of Allied Health Sciences in the College of Health Sciences at ETSU.
Each scholarship has unique criteria regarding eligibility as listed below. An individual may only receive one scholarship per academic year. Should you have any questions regarding your eligibility, please contact your undergraduate advisor for clarification.
Application packets must include the following:
- Completed Scholarship application form
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- One (1) letter of recommendation from an employer (former or current) or from a faculty member external to the Nutrition and Dietetics faculty describing your qualifications to receive this scholarship (no more than one letter per application packet).
- A personal letter which includes:
- Your professional goals
- What unique abilities and qualifications make you a candidate for receiving the award
Include all information in one packet. Applications must be received by March 15. No late applications will be accepted. Turn in your application to Ms. Rachel Moon in Hutcheson Hall, Room 208D.
Harryet S. Blackwell Nutrition Scholarship
The Harryet S. Blackwell Nutrition Scholarship was established to honor Mrs. Blackwell’s years of dedicated service to the Department of Home Economics where she taught from 1951-1979. Her subject areas were food science and Home Economics education, and her influence reached from helping families with basic food education to inspiring students to continue their education.
One $500 scholarship will be offered each year.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in the Nutrition and Dietetics program
- Shows a commitment and professional promise to pursue a career in Nutrition
- Above average GPA (3.0 or better)
- Demonstrated financial need
Juanita West Proffitt Scholarship
Juanita West Proffitt established the scholarship to generate funds for students enrolled in the Nutrition and Dietetics Program. Ms. Proffitt graduated from ETSU with a B.S. in Home Economics in 1960 and a M.S. in vocational-technical education with an emphasis in Home Economics in 1984. She returned to school as an adult student, commuting 80 miles each day to complete her degree.
One scholarship ($500) will be offered each year.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in the Nutrition and Dietetics program (apply spring of junior year, scholarship awarded for fall semester senior year)
- Above average GPA (3.0 or better)
- Documented financial need
- Preference given to a candidate from Western North Carolina counties: Yancey, Madison, Buncombe; and Northeast Tennessee counties: Washington, Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, Sullivan, Greene, Hawkins, and Hancock
Vivian V. Rockwood Scholarship Endowment
Vivian V. Rockwood established the scholarship endowment to generate scholarships for students enrolled in the Nutrition and Dietetics Program in the College of Health Sciences at ETSU. Ms. Rockwood served as the Chairperson of the Department of Home Economics at ETSU from 1958-1976.
Four $1500 scholarships will be offered each year.
Eligibility requirements:
- A senior in the Nutrition and Dietetics Program, submitting advanced study plans at ETSU
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrate potential for a successful career in Nutrition and Dietetics
- Financial need may be considered but will not be a deciding factor
Amelia G. Brown Nutrition and Dietetics Scholarship Endowment
The Amelia G. Brown Nutrition and Dietetics Scholarship Endowment was established by Amelia Brown, class of 1969 with a major in Home Economics Education. Dr. Brown served the university for 30 years, reaching the rank of full professor, as well as, 13 years as the Chair of the Department of Applied Human Sciences, six years as Associate Dean in the College of Applied Science and Technology, and six years as Associate Dean of Transfer Articulation.
One scholarship will be offered each year.
Eligibility requirements:
- Currently enrolled in the Nutrition and Dietetics program
- GPA of 3.0 or better
- Be an active member of a student professional organization or honor society within
the Nutrition and Dietetics program, if offered at the university
