My career interests have focused on highly selective neurotoxins as tools to uncover the ontogeny of monoaminergic systems in brain; also, to study nerve regeneration; to study the reactive elements of one neuronal phenotype subsequent to destruction of an alternate neuronal phenotype; and to characterize the processes of dopamine receptor supersensitivity and serotoninergic receptor sensitivity. These processes are applicable to human Parkinson’s disease, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), schizophrenia, tardive dyskinesia, and recovery from injury.
