I was born in Nashville, Tennessee and raised in Hendersonville, TN. After graduating
from high school, I came to East Tennessee State University (ETSU) for my undergraduate
education. I was given the opportunity to continue my training at Quillen College
of Medicine (QCOM), and I graduated in 2008.
I sought further training in general surgery and completed my residency with ETSU.
Following this, I completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Louisiana
State University in Shreveport. I returned to Johnson City to join a private practice.
I gradually increased my academic engagement over time eventually redirecting my
practice toward academics and joining the faculty at QCOM. I have been privileged
to work in all phases of medical education here at QCOM including undergraduate medical
education, both pre-clerkship and clerkship phases, and graduate medical education
through continued engagement with the surgical residents. I currently serve as the
Anatomy Laboratory Director and the Assistant Surgery Clerkship Director.
While my focus at QCOM has always been medical education in its various forms. You
may also interact with me in the clinical setting at the James H. Quillen Veteran’s
Affairs Medical Center. My outside interests include spending time with family and
friends, farming, and fishing.
