The Microscopy core facility offers a wide range of sample preparation and processing
for Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) for both research and clinical applications.
Tissue samples and cells grown in culture are processed to obtain the final grids
necessary to allow the acquisition of photomicrographs using TEM. This facility is
located in the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, on the VA campus of East Tennessee
State University in Johnson City, TN, Building 119, Room 119. Users are encouraged
to consult and use the JIAM Microscopy Center facility located in Knoxville, TN at
the University of Tennessee to obtain final photomicrographs of their samples. The
University of Tennessee will charge fees for obtaining photomicrographs separate from
any required by the MCF for sample processing.
If you are new to the facility or EM methodology, it is suggested that you consult with EM staff before starting a project to ensure proper handling of samples. We do not charge for consultations.
