An ample amount of sunshine and warming temperatures in spring begins as early as
March, accompanied by a huge array of blooms as the area awakens from winter, under
crisp, clear skyscapes. Soon to follow are our long summer months and time at area
lakes, hiking and biking trails, golf courses and national parks. Typically by October,
fall is in the air with spectacular colors framed by deep blue skies, local festivals
and other seasonal traditions celebrated. Snow typically begins in December (with
an occasional early brush in November) and with it brings skiing and snowboarding
to be enjoyed on nearby slopes in North Carolina and Virginia, hot chocolate and warmed
cider.

Where is one of the world's richest temperate deciduous forests?
Yes — it's East Tennessee! As part of the Appalachian and Blue Ridge mountains, also known as the Appalachian Highlands, this area is one of the world's richest temperate deciduous forests with long ridges and deep valleys which serve both as barriers and corridors. Certain summits of the southern Appalachians are called heath balds— open meadows or grasslands with thick growths of heath. Roan Mountain in the North Carolina–Tennessee Unakas is one of the most extensive of these, with some 1,200 acres of natural gardens sprawling vivid rose, pink and purple rhododendron across its high pinnacle and down its slopes. What type of water sports can be enjoyed in the mountains?

Where is the most visited national park in the United States? Trivia: What does Shaconage (Sha-Kon-O-Hey) mean?
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a mountain range rising along the Tennessee–North Carolina border, contains some of the largest tracts of wilderness in the East, and is a critical sanctuary for a wide variety of animals. It's name is traced to the native Cherokee people who called the area Shaconage, which translates to “place of the blue smoke.” That haze is the optical result of a natural photochemical process from the dense and diverse forests that emit natural hydrocarbons. Where can one find solitude under starry skies?
"Get lost" in solitude camping under the stars, hiking, or taking a scenic drive through the largest tract of public land in Tennessee. With 650,000-acres of forest, the Cherokee National Forest stretches from Chattanooga to Bristol along the North Carolina border.
