This map highlights the 228 counties across six states that comprise the project’s study area.
Disproportionately burdened with a high prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and CVD-related risk factors, Appalachia is an identifiable region of major health disparity in the United States. The CVD community engagement award project, funded by Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, was established to create a community-based and patient-centered conference for the purposes of developing a research agenda focused on quality improvement strategies that will prevent and control CVD in Central Appalachia and to better understand why successful statewide and national policies/programs have not had comparable impacts.
