Texas Flooding

ETSU is providing support services for students, faculty and staff who may have been affected by the floods in Texas.

Dangerous flooding in multiple central Texas counties has had a devastating impact. At least 82 people have died due to the storm, and at least 41 people are missing. Dozens have been injured. In Kerr County, the hardest-hit area, at least 40 adults and 28 children have been killed, officials say. Continuing storms have the potential to exacerbate the devastation in the area.

Ways to help

The following three organizations have been identified for donations. Please review the webpages for more detailed information on how the organizations serve the community.

Kerr County, Texas Flood Relief Fund

American Red Cross

Salvation Army

This list will be updated as more opportunities, including local assistance efforts, become known.

How to avoid charity scams

  • Ask questions on how and who will benefit from your donation. Resist pressure to give on the spot.
  • If you are asked for a donation through text or email, contact the charity or nonprofit directly to verify the request.
  • If you give through an app or website, ask if it is going directly to the organization.
  • Don't assume a social media or blog recommendation has been approved by the nonprofit.
  • Avoid giving cash.
  • Always try to get a receipt for your donations and ask if it is tax-deductible.
  • If a paid fundraiser asks you for a donation, ask how much the fundraiser keeps and how much goes to the nonprofit.
