Internal Communication
Weekly Emails
To better align with best internal communication practices – and in response to overwhelming survey responses from faculty, staff, and students – the Office of University Marketing and Communications will implement changes to weekly emails starting in 2024. The highlights:
Less messaging: The Weekly Update and Events email will be combined, arriving in email inboxes Tuesday morning.- Deadline: To be included in the weekly email, all materials must be submitted by 10 a.m. on Friday.
- Events: All events will appear as a link to the ETSU calendar.
- Updates: Updates or announcements you wish to share must be short, no more than a couple sentences and include a link for more information. (Note: If you regularly have announcements that you would like to run and don’t have a natural place on your current department page, consider creating a simple Update page; instructions are here. Contact your PM if you have questions or need assistance.)
- Something new: You no longer need to send any announcements to emails@etsu.edu. So long as your event is on the calendar by the 10 a.m. Friday deadline, it will be included in the weekly email. For updates or announcements, complete this short form by 10 a.m. on Friday.
- Difference between event and announcement: An event is a scheduled activity, such as a conference or concert, with a specific date and time. An update or announcement is an informational item of interest, such as a policy change or important departmental news.
Why are we doing this?
- In a university-wide survey of faculty, staff, and students, 79% recommended combining what was formerly Weekly Events and Weekly Update.
- In the same survey, a majority said they would appreciate shorter announcements with less text.
How else can I promote my announcements?
- Always feel welcome to reach out to your Partnership Manager. They can help you brainstorm additional ways to advertise your events and announcements.
Utilizing digital signage is another excellent way to promote your initiatives. Contact the office here.
