ARTS & SCIENCES - STUDENT AFFAIRS

  • Provides service to ALL Arts & Sciences majors seeking college degree information and exceptions. Students may seek the Dean's signature for such issues as:
    • Changing audit to credit
    • Late add and/or drop approval
    • overload extension
    • Catalog extensions
    • Grade appeals
    • Misconduct charges
    • Any other Student document requiring the Dean's signature

HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE

  • It is the Mission of Housing & Residence Life to provide housing, programs, and services that:
    • Establish a setting that enables learning to take place.
    • Are affordable, enjoyable, safe, and well maintained.
    • Motivate students to participate in campus activities.
    • Connect academic work and resident living experiences to maximize student learning and development.
    • Establish and foster a diverse, interactive learning community

CENTER FOR ADVISEMENT & STUDENT SUCCESS- ARTS & SCIENCES

  • Provides service to ALL Campus Students seeking general education information and exceptions.
  • Provides Academic Advisement ALL Freshmen and Sophomore (0-59 earned credit hours) students whose major is housed within the following College of Arts and Sciences departments:
    • Appalachian Studies
    • Art and Design
    • Biological Sciences
    • Chemistry
    • Communication and Performance
    • Criminal Justice and Criminology
    • Geosciences
    • History
    • Literature and Language
    • Media and Communication
    • Mathematics and Statistics
    • Music
    • Philosophy and Humanities
    • Physics and Astronomy
    • Political Science, International Affairs, and Public Administration
    • Psychology (includes juniors)
    • Social Work

  • Provides academic coaching for freshmen and sophomores through the Positive Academic Coaching and Empowerment (PACE) program.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONS ADVISEMENT (MPA)

  • Provides information, academic counseling, and other support services to students who wish to apply to professional schools in medically-related disciplines.
  • Advises students interested in Allopathic Medicine, Chiropractic Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Podiatry, and Veterinary Medicine.  Students interested in these areas need to see an MPA Advisor each semester they are enrolled at ETSU, in addition to their Major Advisor.
  • Supports eleven student organizations including Alpha Epsilon Delta-the National Pre-Health Honor Society, the American Medical Student Association-AMSA, Health Occupations Students of America-HOSA, Minority Association of Pre-Health Students-MAPS, Oral Health Student Association-OHSA, Pre-Optometry Student Association-POSO, Pre-Pharmacy Student Association-PPSA, Physician Assistant Student Organization-PASO, Pre-Osteopathic Medical Association- SOMA, Pre-Veterinary Student Association- AHSSO and the Student Organization Leadership Council-SOLC.   MPA encourages the involvement and development of other student organizations, as students indicate interest.
  • Workshops are provided to enhance student applications for professional schools.
  • Composite Letters of Evaluation (Committee Letters) are available for students applying to professional schools, upon completion of respective program pre-requisite courses.
  • Offers the Pre-Health Living Learning Community, a supportive living-learning environment in a residence hall for students interested in pursuing careers in health related fields.
  • Facilitates programming that allows networking opportunities with professional schools, healthcare, providers, and other helpful connections for students.
  • Offers the Health Professions Explorations course, a freshmen experience course design to introduce students the many areas of healthcare and provide information and training that will help them be competitive candidates in the future.

OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT

  • Houses director of University Advisement.
  • Promotes the continuous improvement of undergraduate advisement at ETSU.
  • Provides undergraduate advisor training.
  • Provides Banner Workshops (Self-Service Banner & Internet Native Banner) for campus for accessing student academic data. 
  • Coordinates advisement and check-out process at new student orientation.
  • Serves as designee for Academic Affairs for late student appeals
  • Assists students with advisement concerns and serves as a referral resource. 
  • Coordinates the Need Help Website. 

COMMUNITY - ENGAGED LEARNING QEP

STUDENT ACTIVITIES & ORGANIZATIONS

  • Enhancing communication between student organizations and university staff.
  • Improving collaboration and synergy between organizations and administrators in order to form partnerships and offer high-quality and well-attended programs.
  • Fostering respect for the diversity of people and ideas at ETSU through program and organization offerings.
  • Increasing awareness of the range of student organizations, activities, and available resources for all students.
  • Strengthening the communication, leadership, and organization skills among members of student organizations.
  • Enhancing the visibility of student groups, their needs, and their programs services provided.
  • Assist new and continuing students to become involved in campus life and find the needed resources and information.
  • Support student organizations; Academic, Fraternity & Sorority, Honor, Religious, Residence, Service, Special Interest, University Sponsored, etc.
  • Provide leadership education for students and student organizations.
  • Assist students in programming to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Provide information about ETSU campus and activities.
  • Resources available to registered organizations: access to other organizations in order to share resources, ideas, and event plans; computers with all types of software; printers & copiers (all sizes, black and white, and color); button making machine; popcorn machine; markers, paints, and die-cut machines; helium tank; paper folders; paper cutter; hole punchers and staples; AND much more. 

RONALD MCNAIR PROGRAM

  • The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is named in honor of Ronald E. McNair, and African American Astronaut killed in the Challenger Space Shuttle explosion in 1986. This program is one of the United States Department of Education's special initiatives known as TRIO that serve and assist disadvantaged students in their educational endeavors.
  • The goal of the McNair Progam is to increase teh attainment of graduate degrees; particularly PhD's by students from underrepresented segments of society such as students who are from low-income and first generation backgrounds or students who are ethnic minorities and underrepresented in graduate programs. 
  • The McNair Program has both a paid Summer, Pre-research Internship, and an Academic Year, Research Intensive Internship. Students typically begin with the Summer, Pre-research Internship and are offered the Academic Year, Research Intensive Internship based on their work during the Summer Internship Program. Both opportunities are paid internships. Students are paid at various "milestones" as they complete the work outlined in their internship program requirements. 
  • Topics covered in both internship experience include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Research Designs and Methods (Quantitative, Qualitative, Experimental, STEM) assigned to student dependent upon major and other factors:
    • Graduate School Application Mechanics (Personal Statements, Letters of Recommendations, CV's)
    • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test (Verbal, Analytical Writing, and Quantitative Overview)
    • Postbaccalaureate Academic and Career Planning
    • Research Presentation Skills (Oral Formats) and Public Speaking Compentency
    • Academic Professionalism
    • A mentored research experience with faculty in your field of interest (not a contrived research experience)
    • Opportunities to publish professional papers
    • Opportunities to attend professional conferences
    • Production of a professional research poster
    • Access to ETSU faculty and administration that will support your application to graduate school
  • Students must apply and must be first-generation and low-income, or a student from an ethnic minority and underrepresented student population to be considered for acceptance in the program. The program application typically opens in the Fall Semester and closes by mid-March of the following Spring Semester.

  • The office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is dedicated to student growth and success through involvement in East Tennessee State University's Greek community.

STUDENT CENTER & RESERVATION SERVICES





  • The D.P. Culp Student Center serves as the community center for ETSU campus.
  • Housed within are numerous services; student and administrative offices, recreational opportunities, food service areas, reservable space, bookstore, post office, etc. 
  • The Student Center provides reservation services for all meeting room space, dining room space, conference rooms, ballroom, auditorium, cave, and several outdoor locations for ETSU students, faculty, staff, and the community. 
  • The Student Center is made up of a three level floor plan with food service retail, cave, and auditorium on the lower level; offices, lactation suite, and meeting room space on the second level; dining hall, offices, meeting room space, and ballroom on the third level.
  • ETSU students, faculty, and staff and easily reserve utilizing the 25live reservation software.
  • Information Station is located on the first level providing a list of scheduled events within the center, building support; phone service, safety and security, and emergency response, access to university website, and houses assitance for persons with disabilities, maps, and campus directions. 
  • Use of campus property and facilities policy is also housed within the center for review.

UNIVERSITY CAREER SERVICES

  • Career Discovery Area

    • The Starting place for students in the process of choosing an academic major or who are clarifying their career plans. 
    • Provides personalized help by focusing in an in-depth manner on future goals, interests, abilities, values; choices; education and occupational information; and career decision-making.
    • Students discover their fit; Personality and Interest Assessments (including the Myers-Briggs Personality and 16Personalities Type Indicators); Electronic searches and on-line career assessments and resources
    • Provides the Focus2 online assessment from www.etsu.edu/careers.
    • Meets with students to review their Focus2 results, answer career questions, and helps students create an academic plan. 

    Career Services Benefits

    • Offers services to ETSU Students and Alumni seeking full-time career opportunities, internships, and part-time or seasonal employment.
    • Maintains BucLink (an online service for ETSU Students and Alumni to post resumes and the location where Employers post opportunities).
    • Maintains www.etsu.edu/careers where ETSU Students and Alumni can easily locate sample job search materials and useful information about Career Fairs, On-Campus Interviews, Employer Information Sessions, workshops and additional events.
    • Provides advisement and support for employment search letters and resumes, planning a career search, preparing for an interview, networking and obtaining employment. 
    • Coordinates internships, available in most disciplines.  For opportunities to earn academic credit for carefully planned and supervised work experience, visit the University Career Services Office early and often during your Student years at ETSU.
    • Supports and works with constituents that include Students, Alumni, Academic Departments, Individual Faculty, Campus Organizations, Community Groups and Employers.

UNIVERSITY ADVISEMENT CENTER

  • Academic Advisement for all students identified as "Undeclared Majors" and Students who are taking Learning Support courses.  NOTE: Students who are ONLY taking Learning Support Math courses should see their Major Advisor.

LITTLE BUCCANEERS

  • ETSU has proudly partnered with Ballad Health to open the Ballad Center for Early Learning. This transformative partnership will directly benefit our students and their families. As a part of Ballad Health's investment, the Center will offer priority to children of ETSU students. The Center is located at 2101 Signal Drive and will provide a comprehensive curriculum focused on early literacy, numeracy, and comprehensive child development.
  • ETSU's current childcare program, Little Bucs, will continue as a service to provide help to students who are seeking childcare funding assistance. The program will function with oversight provided by the Dean of Students Office. As part of an effort to expand support to students, a Childcare Funding Coordinator was obtained January 2024. The coordinator is able to meet with students seeking childcare support and assist them in determining childcare availability at the Ballad Center for Early Learning at ETSU, at another Ballard Center, or at any licensed childcare facility in the State of Tennessee. As part of the assistance provided, eligibility for CCAMPIS grant funding or other subsidies to offset childcare costs will be determined. Some students may qualify for significant discounts on childcare fees. The Little Bucs Program will also offer workshops, trainings, and other opportunities to student parents. 
  • In addition to expand childcare service options, this strategic alliance provides ETSU students studying early childhood development an opportunity to complete their required observation hours at the Ballad Center for Early Learning at ETSU while developing hands-on experience under the guidance of licensed, experienced childcare professionals. 
  • ETSU's partnership with Ballad Health underscores a shared commitment to fostering a community where quality, affordable childcare eliminates educational barriers, enhances quality of life, and supports workforce development. This collaboration is a testament to our mutual goal of making our region the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
