When is the Archives open?
We are open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. except ETSU holidays and administrative closings. We advise you to call our Reading Room at 423.439.4338 for the most up to date schedule.
Where is the Archives of Appalachia located?
The Archives of Appalachia is located in Room 422 on the 4th floor of the Sherrod
Library building; 344 J L Seehorn Road on the main campus of ETSU. Follow this link
to a map of the ETSU campus. Sherrod Library is building 320 on the map.
Is there visitor parking on the ETSU campus?
Yes, visitor parking is available. Click here to obtain a visitor parking permit or e-mail the Parking Services at parking@etsu.edu. You will need to know when you plan to visit, your tag number, and your driver license
number. Parking services will e-mail you a permit to place on your dashboard. A permit
allows you to park in any faculty, staff, or student parking lot. There is no charge
for a permit. If you cannot obtain a parking permit via email, you may request a permit
on the day of arrival at the Parking Services drive up window located at 132 Stout
Drive near the main entrance to ETSU from University Parkway.
What kind of genealogical resources are in the Archives?
While our Appalachian Collections focus primarily on the history and culture of the
region, we may have family papers and county histories helpful for genealogical research.
Microfilm census records and local newspapers are housed in the Sherrod Library.
Does the Archives provide reference assistance?
Yes. We provide reference assistance at no charge to patrons visiting the Archives.
If you would like to schedule a research appointment to discuss your project, please
contact us via phone or email. We also provide up to one-half hour of distance access
services at no cost. For additional information on accessing and using the Archives

Can I access the Archives' materials online?
A small number of our collections are currently available online. Additionally, we offer a searchable online database where we maintain inventories of all of our collections. If you find something of
interest, you can arrange to access the materials through onsite or distance services.
