What Former Students Say
Quotes from former Governor's School students . . . read about their experiences!
"Governor's School was one of the best experiences in my high school career. The school gave me friends that I still keep in touch with and experiences I would have never taken a chance (Contra Dancing and Gray Fossil Site)."
"The experience was amazing. I learned about the great state of Tennessee and studied its history in depth. In addition the friends that I made along the journey are lifelong. I would recommend this awesome experience to anyone!"
"Governor's School was an amazing opportunity that allowed me to gain knowledge in the field of history and science, as well as knowledge about myself. Throughout the month, I learned so much about who I really am; I know it's cliché to say, but I truly discovered myself at GSSETH. Words cannot describe how thankful I am to have had the experience to develop my intelligence and to form life-long friendships with people from all across the state of Tennessee. I highly recommend that all rising seniors/juniors apply to Governor's School, as it is an incredible life-changing month."
"I enjoyed Governor’s School very much. The people that I met taught me so much about good study habits and how to work hard in all that I do. I loved getting to go around Tennessee and learning about the history of the place that I have lived all of my life. I would advise anyone even considering applying to take the chance and put their application in."
"It was amazing! If I could, I would have done it every year!"
"Gov School was the single best experience I've ever had in my life. THANK YOU FOR CONTINUING TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE!!!!"
I can say with confidence that attending the Governor's School for the Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage was one of the best and most formative experiences of my high school career, making not only a lasting impression on my academic ambitions and plans but also an immense boost to my social confidence. The Governor's School provides an ideal introduction to college academics. While the students are provided authenticity through taking a full college-level course, the subjects are brought to life and made more engaging through field experiences meant to reinforce the course material. The program also has the added benefit of introducing students to all that ETSU has to offer; personally, I can say that I wouldn't have applied to be in the Honors Program if it had not been for my time at GSSETH. Aside from the academics, I was profoundly influenced by the time spent living with the other students. For many (me included), this is the first time spent surrounded by people who share a passion for academics, history, and Appalachia. This gave me an opportunity to come out of my shell and reach my potential as a student and leader.
