Gradate Scholarships
Financial support of full-time doctoral students in the AuD program is awarded through graduate student assistantships (GA) and tuition scholarships (TS). Admitted students are automatically considered for these competitive sources of financial aid. More information on these funding sources can be found here.

Kirbo Audiology Scholarship
The purpose of the Kirbo Foundation Audiology Scholarship Endowment is to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students enrolled in the Audiology Program of the College of Health Sciences at East Tennessee State University. The endowment is established by Mr. Charles Kirbo in gratitude for the exceptional education his daughter, Amelia Kirbo, received as an Au.D. student at ETSU. Amelia graduated in May of 2015.
The Audiology faculty consider the following criteria when awarding the Kirbo Scholarship:

Each candidate must have successfully completed his or her second year of study

The student must have a graduate GPA of 3.7 or higher and have displayed excellence in clinical assignments during their program of study.

Additional commendation is made for student participation as an officer in the student organization as well as for volunteerism and effort on philanthropic activities
The inaugural Kirbo Scholar was Ashley Tice (class of 2017), who received the award in Spring, 2016.

Laurie Higgins Audiology Scholarship
The Higgins endowment is established by a gracious contribution by Ms. Laurie Higgins, an alum from the ETSU ASLP program. Ms. Higgins completed dual bachelor’s degrees in both speech and hearing pathology and psychology in 1980, then earned a master’s degree in audiology in 1982 from ETSU. She spent 25 years as community clinical Audiologist in the Tri-Cities region. The Laurie Higgins Audiology Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding 2nd year audiology student, as voted by academic and clinical faculty in the Doctor of Audiology program at East Tennessee State University. Faculty consider student GPA, clinical excellence, and service to the community and profession in their votes for the Higgins Scholarship. Higgins award winners in the past included students who contributed to philanthropic events, community volunteer work, and excelled in the classroom.

Kim Osucha Memorial Scholarship
The Kim Osucha Memorial Scholarship was established in 2021 to honor Kim Osucha, Au.D., who graduated from our program in 2015. She lost her battle to cancer in May of 2020. The Scholarship is awarded to a third year AuD student. The ideal student is one who mirrors the best of Kim’s character: is living life to its fullest; who faces adversity with grace, strength, and a positive outlook; is involved in outreach and community service; sees the value in travel; is naturally comfortable with patients; has strong relationships with other students in the program; has a passion to help individuals with hearing loss and related health conditions; and has a strong bedside manner. Preference will be given to applicants having a personal experience with hearing loss, coming to ETSU from out of state, and after graduation, planning to work with veterans or adults.
