Rationale for Plan of Study
The ETSU AuD curriculum is designed to meet or exceed qualifications needed for ASHA’s CCC-A and for state licensure. All enrolled students complete the same required curriculum comprising of didactic 78-credit-hour program of study along with 42 semester hours of clinical courses to result in a total of 120 semester hours. Any elective coursework completed by a student will be in addition to that 78-hour minimum.
The ETSU AuD program is completed across four years. Year 1 - 3 of the Audiology Program are comprised of didactic coursework and clinical practicum at onsite and offsite clinical placements. Clinical practicum begins in Year 1 and gradually increases across the subsequent two years. Didactic course load is heaviest in Year 1 and 2, then decreases in Year 3 to allow for more clinical practicum hours. Students complete written comprehensive exams in the Spring of Year 1 and Year 2, and undergo oral comprehensive exams in Spring of Year 3 as a culminating experience for the AuD program. Following the completion of course requirements and oral comprehensive exams, students complete Year 4 at a clinical externship.
