Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program
Welcome to ETSU Orthopaedics!
The ETSU Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program is a five-year ACGME accredited residency
program that fulfills all the criteria for the successful graduate to sit for Part
I of their Board examination given by either the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery
(ABOS) or the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (AOBOS).
Residents rotate at three main hospitals: Johnson City Medical Center, Holston Valley
Medical Center, and Bristol Regional Medical Center, as well as several outpatient
surgery centers and orthopedic practices across the Tri-Cities area (Johnson City,
Kingsport, and Bristol, TN). Residents also rotate at the Shriners Hospital for Children
in Greenville, SC for six months during the third year of training.
Our faculty are trained in a variety of specialties and many are fellowship trained in the following areas: hand and upper extremity, sports medicine, trauma, spine, pediatric orthopedics, hip and knee replacement, and foot & ankle.
The mission of the ETSU Orthopaedic Residency Program is to provide a high quality training experience that prepares our resident physicians for comprehensive general or sub-specialty orthopaedics. This goal is achieved through a structured clinical and didactic educational curriculum that follows nationally established best practices as well as the commitment of faculty and their institutions to this teaching program. The culmination of this mission is to have imparted the orthopaedic knowledge and skills to the trainee, to achieve the highest level of care for their future patients.
