Educational Opportunities
Job Shadow/Visitor
As a visitor to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center you would be allowed to shadow forensic center staff for one day. Part of this opportunity may include attendance of Morning Report (presentation of case history), death scene response, autopsy observation or review of cases with the pathologist. In order to ensure that this opportunity is reserved for those individuals whose course of study or career goals coincide with medicine or forensic investigations the applicant will be required to submit a 250 word essay (350 word max) detailing their career goals and educational objectives. Resumes and a letter of recommendation from the individual’s professor are required when credit will be received as part of the individual’s course of study. The essay and letter of recommendation (if required) will be reviewed and approved or denied by the Director of the Division of Forensic Pathology and the Director of Operations.
If selected the individual must be 18 year of age or older, sign a statement of understanding for an educational visitor on rotation at the forensic center (confidentiality statement). They must also provide documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination or agree to sign a vaccination waiver if they are observing in the morgue. Any evaluation sheets must be made available upon the day of attendance.
Resumes, personal statements and letters of recommendation must be submitted by email to parsonsl@etsu.edu. Please include in the subject line of your email Forensic Center Visitor.
