Physical Therapy Program

College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences

Welcome to the Physical Therapy Program

  Welcome to ETSU Physical Therapy!
class of 2022

Happy to Welcome the Class of 2022

Happy National Physical Therapy Month 2020!

October is National Physical Therapy Month, designated by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as a month-long event to raise public awareness of the many benefits of physical therapy.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services second edition of Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, more than 80% of adults and adolescents do not get enough physical activity.
Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants play a critical role in helping Americans of all ages and abilities achieve their physical activity goals, and improve their quality of life.

Get involved and urge people to choose physical therapy to improve mobility, manage pain and other chronic conditions, recover from injury, and prevent future injury and chronic disease.

Congratulations to the DPT Class of 2019!

Marissa is a 2009 graduate of ETSU PT. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science  from Appalachian State University in 2005.  In 2010, Greene was commissioned as a lieutenant in the  United  States Navy Medical Service Corps.  In 2017, she graduated from the Military Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy Residency Program from the Army Medical Department Center and School in Texas.  She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in defense and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College.  While serving as department head for the Orthopedic Physical/Occupational Therapy and Chiropractic Department at the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, she led 23 staff to provide inpatient and outpatient therapy services to 55,000 active duty members and their beneficiaries.  During this time, she pioneered the Navy’s first multidisciplinary Traumatic Brain Injury Program that served all warfighters within the Pacific area of operations.  She currently serves as the senior physical therapist and associate director for Clinical Support Services in Pensacola, Florida, overseeing 24 staff across four diverse departments including pharmacy, radiology, physical/occupational therapy and laboratory services. In recognition of her clinical excellence and managerial prowess, she was selected as the U.S Navy Physical Therapist of the Year in 2018.  Congratulations on a well-deserved award.  You have certainly made us proud!

PT Club

The ETSU PT Club recently collaborated with three other ETSU Student Organizations to host “Carnival for a Cause,” a community fundraising event support the Crumley House, a local non-profit organization.  The event was held on March 7, 2020, at the ETSU CPA recreational fields.  The Crumley House serves individuals that have experienced a brain injury, through residential and day programs.  These programs provide speech and cognitive therapy, physical training, activities of daily living, and computer skills.  The PT Club collaborated with the following student organizations to host the event: ETSU Honors College Student Council, Allied Health Student Association, and the American Medical Student Association.

More about the PT Club:  The PT Student Club is comprised of current DPT students and ETSU pre-PT undergraduate students.  The PT Club’s mission is to provide opportunities for leadership and growth, community outreach, professional networking, and education on the physical therapy profession.  The Club’s structure, which is analogous to the American Physical Therapy Association’s structure, provides all members with exposure to professional organization governance.  Each of ETSU’s three DPT classes are separate components of the PT Student Club and the Pre-PT undergraduate students make-up the fourth component.  Dr. Allie Bourassa, Assistant Professor, serves as Club Advisor.  If you would like to know more about the Club, feel free to contact Dr. Bourassa at .
