Maintenance
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the ETSU Facilities Management Department is to provide support necessary to maintain all facilities, grounds and environmental systems in a manner that is conducive to enhancing the mission goals of the University. The facilities for East Tennessee State University are comprised of 366 acres with 80 academic and administrative buildings on the main campus, the VA Health Sciences Campus, and locations in Kingsport, Bristol, Elizabethton and the Gray Fossil Site. Facilities Management is responsible for the routine, preventative and emergency maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment for the University as well as local renovation projects.
Routine Maintenance - issues are handled through a computerized work order system.
Energy Management - The University utilizes a Metasys system to monitor building utility systems. Sensors are installed in buildings to monitor domestic hot water temperatures, HVAC system temps and operation and steam temperatures. The system is monitored 24 hours a day by Public Safety.
Power House - The power house is responsible for providing domestic hot water and heating throughout the main campus.
Paint Shop - The paint shop is responsible for painting the interior and exterior of University buildings; striping parking lots; laying out and striping athletic fields; painting miscellaneous items such as light poles, waste receptacles, street signage, etc. Preventative maintenance for the paint shop includes a seven year rotating plan where University buildings are painted every seven years. Parking stripes and street signage are painted annually.
Carpentry Shop - The carpentry shop is responsible for general maintenance of a construction nature in relation with aesthetics, installation and operation of building items such as doors and windows, floors, ceilings, classroom teaching aids, furnishings, etc. Most maintenance items for this shop are handled through the computerized work order system. Annually the carpentry shop will go through the student housing buildings during the summer break and make necessary repairs to dorm rooms.
Mechanical Shop - Includes the plumbing shop - responsible for the domestic hot and cold water supply, sewer systems, natural gas and all associated fixtures for the University. Also the HVAC Shop - responsible for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for the University.
Electrical Shop - The electrical shop is responsible for all University electrical services including main distribution of power, panels, street lighting, receptacles, interior lighting, switches, etc.
Movers - The moving crew assists University faculty and staff with moving and transporting large furnishings, bookshelves, equipment, etc. Requests are directed through the computerized work order system.
