Institutional Review Board (IRB)
Welcome to the Institutional Review Board!
An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee established to review research involving human subjects. All research that involves humans as participants requires IRB review and approval prior to initiation of the study. The primary purpose of IRBs is to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects involved in research under their authority. ETSU has established two IRBs to review research from the Main Campus, Medical Campus, and Quillen VA Medical Center. The ETSU/VA Medical and Campus IRBs are an important part of ETSU's Human Research Protection Program.
The ETSU Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) is an institution-wide program dedicated to the protection of human research participants and reports to the Vice Provost for Research. The HRPP is responsible for providing education, outreach, and coordination among various institutional components in support of human research protection. ETSU's HRPP is accredited by the Association for Accrediation of Human Research Protection Programs.
The ETSU Human Research Protection Program remains committed to providing services to maintain and protect the health and welfare of its students, staff, faculty, and research participants during this time. Researchers are encouraged to monitor this website for additional information as the situation evolves. The ETSU IRBs remain fully operational and continue to approve research in accordance with established guidelines. Please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance or guidance.
