Admissions Criteria
Applicants seeking admission to the Post-Graduate certificate program must fulfill all requirements for admission to both the ETSU Graduate School and the ETSU College of Nursing.
All applications will be reviewed by the College of Nursing Graduate Admissions Committee.The Graduate School requires that all students submit the following materials:
- Completed application with payment of nonrefundable application fee
- Official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate coursework
- A written essay - instructions will be provided within the application
Admissions Process
All candidates must apply to ETSU. The ETSU application for admission may be submitted online at https://etsuapply.force.com/app
Once the application file is complete, it will be forwarded to the College of Nursing and reviewed by the admissions committee. Applicants will be notified by E-mail of the admission decision 4 - 6 weeks after the deadline.

Post-Graduate APRN Certificates
The Post-Graduate APRN certificate is designed for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses with either a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree who seek academic preparation in a new concentration area. The Post-Graduate APRN certificate is designed to provide the necessary core courses and clinical/practicum experiences necessary to provide eligibility for national certification.The College of Nursing offers three Post-Graduate APRN certificates:
- Post DNP Adult Gerontological Nurse Practitioner
- The Adult/Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner certificate program is designed for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses with a Doctor of Nursing (DNP) degree. The program provides a broad knowledge foundation through focused didactic and practicum/clinical experiences. This program focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, and healthcare management of for individuals age 13 through the elderly. This specialty area prepares nurse practitioners to care for the aging population in primary care settings. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will meet eligibility requirements for the national certification examination.
- Post-Graduate APRN Certificate Family Nurse Practitioner
- The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certificate program provides a formal program
of study for MSN and DNP prepared nurses interested in taking the national certification
exam to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. To be eligible for the certification
exam, students must "successfully complete graduate didactic and clinical requirements
through a formal program in the desired area of practice." The FNP Certificate program
offers a formal program of study to meet this need for students who already have the
Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree without requiring
them to complete a second degree.
- The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certificate program provides a formal program
of study for MSN and DNP prepared nurses interested in taking the national certification
exam to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. To be eligible for the certification

- The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) concentration offers a post Graduate certificate for nurses who have completed either a MSN or DNP degree program in nursing. This customized special studies program provides a curriculum focusing on the courses and clinical/practicum experiences to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to manage patients with mental health conditions. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates meet eligibility requirements for the national certification examination.

The Health Care Genetics and Genomics post-baccalaureate certificate program is offered to nurses and other healthcare professionals. This certificate program provides knowledge of how the genetic makeup and the environment may contribute to the development of common inherited disorders. This certificate program will prepare the students to utilize knowledge of genetics, genomics, epigenetics, pharmacogenetics, genetic testing, and genetic counseling in their practice.
Admission Requirements
Potential applicants must have a baccalaureate degree in nursing or in a health related field from a regionally accredited institution. All potential applicants must meet ETSU Graduate School admission requirements.

- Post-Graduate Nursing Administration Certificate
- The Post Graduate Certificate in Nursing Administration provides a flexible learning environment and a highly individualized experience for students who hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree in another specialty. Through this program, students will gain a strong foundation in complex systems, organizational theory, financial management, and leadership practice.

Out of State Applications
- Students who reside outside of the state of Tennessee are responsible to contact their State Board of Nursing to confirm whether the course or program meets online degree program requirements in their state of residence prior to application.
- Continuation in the Graduate Nursing Program for students who relocate outside the state of Tennessee is dependent on the State Board of Nursing where the student is physically present.
- It is the student’s responsibility to notify ETSU College of Nursing and ETSU records office with a change in physical residence.
