  • Overview

    The bachelor of science in nursing degree (BSN) program prepares individuals to become Registered Nurses. After completing the BSN degree, individuals are qualified to take the National Council Licensing Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) following approval by the State Board of Nursing. Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN, one holds the title of a Registered Nurse (RN) and may enter the healthcare industry as an RN.

    The BSN RN is a generalist whose practice encompasses the interrelated roles of provider of care; designer/manager/coordinator of care; and member of a profession. “Nursing generalist practice includes both direct and indirect care for patients, which includes individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. Nursing practice is built on nursing knowledge, theory, and research. In addition, nursing practice derives knowledge from a wide array of other fields and professions, adapting and applying this knowledge as appropriate to professional practice.” (Click here to view.   • Program Outcomes

    The ETSU College of Nursing BSN curricula incorporates professional standards and guidelines based on The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice [American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), 2008]. These Essentials reflect the core knowledge required of healthcare professionals and emphasizes patient-centered care, interprofessional teams, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, patient safety, informatics, clinical reasoning/critical thinking, genetics and genomics, cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and practice across the lifespan. By the end of the BSN program, the graduate will be able to:

    • Synthesize knowledge from humanities,arts and sciences to provide competent and caring nursing practice in a global society.
    • Communicate effectively with healthcare consumers, colleagues and other members of interprofessional teams at local, regional, national and global levels.
    • Synthesize data to make and evaluate decisions related to best nursing practice.
    • Engage in safe healthcare practices with individuals,families,groups,and populations.
    • Practice nursing in compliance with current legal, ethical, and professional standards reflecting a commitment to lifelong learning.
    • Collaborate to promote health and preven tdisease for individuals,families,groups, and populations.
    • Apply research and health qualitydata to provide evidence-based nursing practice and improve health outcomes.
    • Demonstrate leadership to positively influence healthcare policy, using quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
    • Use information systems and healthcare technology to deliver effective nursing care.
  • NCLEX-RN First-Attempt Pass Rates

    The National Council Licensure Examination, (NCLEX)-RN is the nationally recognized exam for the licensing of Registered Nurses. After graduation from ETSU College of Nursing one takes the NCLEX-RN and upon successful completion receives his/her Registered Nurse licensure.

    2023 = 90%

    2022 = 84% 

    2021 = 84%

    2020 = 87%

    2019 = 78%

    2018 = 90%

  • Accreditation and Approval
    The ETSU College of Nursing BSN program offers eligible candidates membership in the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Nursing Honor Society.
