Higher Education Leadership
The focus of the program is on the professional development of Higher Education Leadership leaders who have a strong desire to enhance their knowledge of leadership principles and to become more effective leaders in their organizations.
Admission Criteria
- Scholarship (graduate level GPA)
- Speaking skills
- Four names and contact information for references
- Employment record (two years in higher education preferred)
- CV or resume
- Interview
Cohorts
All students move through their program as part of an online cohort group. Cohort students will begin the program in the same term and continue through the program with the same group, taking usually 6 credits per term. Each cohort has a site through the electronic course management system (D2L) specifically designed to assist students in advisement with their cohort advisor and other concentration specific information.
Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
Requirements for students who hold a Master's Degree
For students with a valid master's degree, the program of study requires a minimum of 60 credits, which includes the following courses and activities:

Concentration Requirement – 15 credits
ELPA 6581 Internship in Educational Leadership
ELPA 7120 History of American Higher Education
ELPA 7820 Administration of Higher Education
ELPA7822 Higher Education Law
ELPA 7823 Higher Education Finance
Advisor-Approved Electives– 15 credits
Approved ELPA 6000 or 7000 courses
Dissertation Requirements – 12-24 credits

Additional Requirements
The Qualifying Examination is administered toward the end of the required coursework and encompasses knowledge and ideas from these courses. Upon satisfactory completion of the qualifying exam, students enroll in dissertation credits and begin their research project.
