Substance Abuse Nurse Practitioner Residency

The Progressive Resident Experiences for Practitioners to meet Appalachian Rural Healthcare Expectations (PREPARE) grant is a federally funded nurse practitioner 12 month residency program.  The focus of the residency is on addiction management in an outpatient rural health setting. Selected applicants will receive additional training and clinical experiences in addiction medicine to better prepare for the complex health needs of East Tennessee’s patient population.

• Residents will offered a blended residency consisting of clinical practice and didactic experiences
• ETSU College of Nursing operates 6 nurse-managed health centers spread across 3 counties in East Tennessee
• Additional clinical experiences will be provided via collaboration with community partners
• 12 month residency will start July 1^st and end June 30^th the following year

• Application Requirements

  Applicants seeking admission to the PMHNP residency program must fulfill all the requirements listed below:

  • Must hold current board certification in your required specialty by the start of the residency period (July 1st)

  • Must hold a current registered nursing license for the State of Tennessee by the start of the residency period (July 1st)

  • Must hold or have applied for an advanced practice nursing  license for the State of Tennessee by the start of the residency period (Juy 1st)

  • Must be willing and eager to pursue additional training in addiction medicine and rural health care

  • Must be willing to commit to serving out the complete 12 month residency

  • Must be willing to complete and submit requirements to be credentialed with federal, state, and commercial insurance companies for the State of Tennessee

  • Must have graduated from an accredited nurse practitioner program within the last 18 months from the residency start date. Applicants who have graduated greater than 18 months from the residency start date will be ineligible for admission to the residency program at this time.
