ETSU is committed to providing a community that is free from hazing. Hazing represents a violation of the institutional disciplinary policy and state law TCA 49-7-123 (a) (1) and will not be tolerated.
ETSU employees who are mandated reporters as defined by the Clery act are required to report information regarding hazing. Other community members, including students, are encouraged to report hazing so that it can be investigated and stopped.
Hazing can be reported as a potential violation of the institutional disciplinary policy to the Dean of Students office by completing an online incident report or emailing deanofstudents@etsu.edu
Hazing can be reported as a potential crime to ETSU Police by calling 423-439-4480.
Hazing can be reported to both the Dean of Students office and to ETSU Police.
Reports of hazing will be investigated and adjudicated based on processes defined, respectively, in the institutional disciplinary policy and state law.
Should students or student organizations be found responsible for hazing, they can face sanctioning up to and including suspension and expulsion. A violation of law could include fines and incarceration.
Information and data regarding hazing violations will be published in the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report which is available on the ETSU Police webpage and in the Campus Hazing Transparency Report, which will be published at this site no later than December 23, 2025.
Resources and Support
If you know or suspect you have experienced hazing, please report it using the options outlined above. Hazing can impact mental and physical well-being. ETSU provides confidential counseling support at no cost to students. More information can be found at the ETSU Counseling Center webpage. Please be aware that counselors are not mandated reporters. Separate outreach to report will need to occur in order for a review of the complaint to proceed.
Anti-hazing information and educational resources can be found at the Hazing Prevention Network.
Stop Hazing has additional resources, including opportunities for students to serve as anti-hazing ambassadors.
