The CFAA offers free individual tutoring in writing, math, science, many general education core courses, and select upper level courses. Individual tutoring is conducted on a by-appointment basis, but walk-ins are welcome when tutors are available. The CFAA uses Navigate for appointment scheduling so students may easily set and modify their own appointments. Students are encouraged to call 423-439-7111 or email learning@etsu.edu for further assistance.

How to schedule a tutoring appointment
1. Log in to Navigate by going to https://etsu.campus.eab.com Enter your ETSU username and password.
2. Click the blue "Make an Appointment" button in the top right corner. Select "Tutoring," the type of tutoring you would like under "Service", and the date you would like help on, then click "Find Available Time".
3. If applicable, select the course you want help with to view the available appointment times. Select a time that works with your schedule. Appointments are reserved in one hour blocks, but if you do need the full time or need to leave early, that is ok.
4. Choose how you would like to meet (in person or virtual), and add a comment that describes exactly what you would like assistance with. The more information you provide here, the better the tutor can prepare to help you. Check that your phone number is correct so you can receive a text reminder, then click the blue "Schedule" button.
5. Attend your session! If you chose to meet in person, come to the CFAA (1st floor of the Sherrod Library in room 144) at the time of your appointment. The front desk will pair you with your tutor. Make sure to bring your materials and any assignment instructions with you.
If you chose to meet virtually, your appointment confirmation email (sent to your ETSU email address) will contain the Zoom link and passcode for accessing your session. Simply click the link at the time of your appointment to join! Make sure to have your camera on and materials ready to screen share.
For same day tutoring appointments, please call our front desk at 423-439-7111.
Don't forget to check out our tutoring policies below so you know what to expect! We look forward to working with you.

Tutoring Policies
We work hard to ensure the CFAA is a friendly, welcoming, judgement-free zone. Please do not be anxious about visiting because we genuinely want to help!
We have several policies in place to 1) help students become self-sufficient learners, 2) ensure everyone has equal access to tutoring appointments, and 3) help the maximum number of students possible. Our policies include:
- The tutor will not do the work for you. The tutor's job is to assist you in mastering course material and developing your skills by providing examples, asking questions, pointing out areas for improvement, engaging in a dialogue about subject matter, and/or discussing study strategies and techniques.
- Tutoring is an active, engaging process that requires your full participation. Please bring any materials you have (assignment sheet, notes, text, etc.) to help ensure a successful session.
- Learning is a process that takes time and consists of numerous stages. In order to make the best use of the CFAA’s tutoring services, you should visit early and often.
- The tutor is not responsible for your grade; the tutor is also not able to forecast the grade the instructor will give you.
- To ensure we help the most students possible, students may only make one appointment per subject per day.
- While you may request a specific tutor, you are not guaranteed to be able to work with that particular tutor every time.
- If you schedule an appointment, it is your responsibility to cancel (423-439-7111) or re-schedule if you can’t make it. Please avoid last minute cancellations as those may have prevented another student from being helped at that time and adds to the costs of maintaining the center.
- Failure to attend a tutoring appointment will result in your being marked as a “no-show.” After two no-shows, the system will disable your tutoring account, and you will have to visit the center and meet with a staff member to have your account reset. Persistent failure to attend may result in an inability to schedule tutoring appointments (you could only receive tutoring on a walk-in basis).

How to cancel an appointment

If you are within four hours of the start time for your appointment, you will need to call the center (423-439-7111) or email learning@etsu.edu to cancel.

Why should I go to tutoring?
Although there can sometimes be stigma associated with the word "tutoring," tutoring can be beneficial to any student!
Tutoring is a completely free resource for ETSU students. Outside of the ETSU tutoring center, university tutors are paid anywhere from $20 to $50 an hour. Take advantage of this valuable help!
Data collected at ETSU show that students who attend tutoring three or more tutoring sessions for a course successfully complete their courses. Additionally, students who attend tutoring tend to earn higher grades than students who don't.
Tutoring can be a great way to study and confirm that you understand course content. Studying with someone else is more effective than studying alone! If you want to earn high grades, coming to tutoring is a smart move to help you reach your goals.
The tutoring center is a great place to hone your skills! We can help you develop time management, note taking, study strategies, test-taking strategies, and much more. If you'd like to enhance your skills or if you are having difficulty managing everything, we have people and resources to help.
Located on the first floor of Sherrod Library in Room 144, the CFAA can be accessed via the hallway beside Dunkin'.
The CFAA is certified by the College Reading and Learning Center's International Tutor Training Program. This requires the CFAA to adhere to the highest standards of tutor selection, training, supervision, and evaluation.
