- Identify fraternity and sorority life community standards, the characteristics of a role model, opportunites for growth in the fraternity and sorority community
- Develop strategies for safe interventions of problematic or concerning behaviors
- Complete "Ask, Listen, Refer" suicide prevention training
- Identify how being a member of a fraternity or sorority can help your future
Why are we doing this?
After several risk management policy violations and unsafe situations, the ETSU fraternity and sorority community came together on September 2, 2021 to discuss the state of the community. Attending this meeting were: Dr. Brian Noland, Dr. Joe Sherlin, Dr. Leah Adinolfi, Dr. Michelle Byrd, Dr. Maggie Darden, fraternity and sorority life staff, and all junior and senior fraternity and sorority members. We discussed the recent events, heard from Dr. Noland who experienced a life-changing risk event while a member of his fraternity, and heard from members of the community about what their impressions, needs, and wants were for the future of fraternity and sorority life. Members of the community collectively created and agreed upon the following list:
- Community-wide, ETSU-led and delivered risk management program that impresses the importance of taking care of brothers and sisters through risk management to better understand why risk management matters.
- Review risk management policy (progress ongoing)
- Training and instruction on risk management for chapter presidents and social chairs to employ risk management practices and principles so chapter leaders know how to practice risk management.
It is a priority to provide a safe experience for the members of the fraternity and
sorority community. Feedback from community members is always welcome.
