The ETSU Health, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology is actively involved in clinical care of patients with benign and malignant hematological and oncological, education and scholarship. The clinical activities are delivered through the Mountain States Health Alliance with the in-patient care located at Johnson City Medical Center, Franklin Woods Community Hospital and Sycamore Shoals Hospitals.
Ambulatory care and clinics are operated through the Regional Cancer Center of Mountain States Health Alliance located at Johnson City, Elizabethton and Kingsport. A wide variety of benign and malignant hematology and solid tumor oncology patients are cared for by the division faculty.
The division is actively involved in the education and training of medical oncology fellows, internal medicine residents and senior medical students. Scholarship is pursued by discovery, integration, application, teaching and education activities within the division.
Scholarship in the Division of Medical Oncology
The Division of Medical Oncology at East Tennessee State University is an academic medical oncology program committed to the delivery of quality cancer care to the people of this region and to the delivery of quality teaching to our medical students, internal medicine residents and medical oncology fellows at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine. We achieve our ideals through integrated programs in cancer therapy, cancer prevention, basic and translational research and clinical trials. Faculty members collaborate with scientists throughout the university and participate in both basic and clinical research and scholarship, most notably with a focus on:
- Cancer prevention
- Communication in oncology
- Tocotrienols in treatment and prevention of cancer
