Quality Improvement vs Research
- Research is a systematic investigation, including research development, testing and evaluation,
designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge.
- A systematic investigation is typically a predetermined method for studying a specific topic, testing a specific hypothesis(es), answering a specific question, or developing a theory. To develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge typically means that results or conclusions of the activity are intended to be extended beyond the group or program being studied.
- Quality Improvement can be defined as systematic, data-guided activities, designed to bring about immediate
improvements in particular settings, processes, or practices.
- Initiators of QI projects identify promising improvements, implement small scale changes, monitor results, and decide about additional changes and wider implementation.
- Quality improvement is a core function of good clinical care and organization operations.
- Research is a systematic investigation, including research development, testing and evaluation,
designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge.

- Grants Learning Center : The GLC is an on-demand grants training resource that orients you to major funders and includes a proposal builder template. Currently, Hanover has modules for NSF CAREER and NIH R-Series Grants. Within the next few months, Hanover will release several new modules on key grantsmanship skills such as program officer outreach, prospecting, and concept development. Contact Meredith Tallent (tallentml@etsu.edu) to obtain your referral code.
- Grants Alerts and Funding Calendars: Sign up to receive weekly grant alerts, monthly webinars, and monthly funding calendars email notifications. I particularly appreciate the calendars.

-
Additionally, we have limited licenses to access Hanover’s HR Digital. HR Digital is a repository of grants and market research related tools, including recorded webinars, grant checklists, grant planning guides, and more. If you’re actively seeking grants or helping others do the same, please contact me to discuss HR Digital access.

Hanover Research is providing a limited number of proposal reviews between 2024 and 2025. Proposal review services include a teleconference to discuss the draft prior to Hanover review, review of the proposal for narrative alignment with the funding opportunity announcement, specific recommendations using margin comments, a memo outlining high-level recommendations, and a teleconference debrief. To be considered for this program, please submit a request at this link. To maximize the benefits of the review services, requests should be submitted at least four weeks before the proposal submission deadline.
