Priya Jain, MD
Dr. Priya Jain is the Program Director for the Pediatric Residency Program. Dr. Jain grew up in New Jersey and attended NYU, where she majored in Psychology and was captain of the fencing team. Dr. Jain received her MD at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She completed her Pediatric residency and chief residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. After working as a hospitalist in San Diego and New York City, she moved to Johnson City and joined the faculty at East Tennessee State University. She serves as the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Division Chief for Niswonger Children's hospital. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children, trying new foods/restaurants, and taking advantage of the beautiful outdoors. Stephanie Layne, DO
Dr. Stephanie Layne is an Associate Program Director. She grew up in Dayton, OH and attended the University of Kentucky for undergraduate studies. While in Lexington, Dr. Layne was able to grow her love for science and the arts while studying biology and playing viola in the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. She attended medical school at the University of Pikeville and completed her clinical rotations in Somerset, KY. Dr. Layne first came to Johnson City as a fourth-year medical student rotating through adolescent medicine and fell in love with the city as well as the ETSU Pediatrics Residency program. After completing residency, Dr. Layne went into private practice in Asheville, NC for 2 years. She returned to ETSU as faculty in 2021 and is so happy to call Johnson City home again. Dr. Layne serves as the Tri-TRAILS Pediatric Director in addition to APD and outpatient clinical duties. In her free time, Dr. Layne attends fitness classes, tries to make pottery, and reads. Dr. Layne's greatest joy of all, though, is appreciating life's simple moments with her son, husband, dogs, and friends. Rachel Lindsey, MD
Dr. Rachel Lindsey is an Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Residency Program. She grew up in Southwest Virginia and moved to Johnson City to attend ETSU Quillen College of Medicine where she received her MD degree. Dr. Lindsey stayed with ETSU for pediatric residency, during which time she served as chief resident. Upon graduation from residency, she stayed with ETSU and joined the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine as Assistant Professor. Her professional interests include breastfeeding, allergic disorders, and global health. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her husband and two rambunctious boys and can probably be found at Walt Disney World on a long weekend off from work. Dennis E. Calain Jr., MS
Dennis Calain is the Program Manager for the Pediatric Residency Program. He grew up in Elkins, West Virginia. He attended Old Dominion University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science with a Minor in Management. He later attended California University of Pennsylvania and earned a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. Dennis is a Navy veteran who served over 26 years and retired in 2018 as a Hospital Corpsman Chief Petty Officer. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, camping/hiking and cooking.
