The Academic Performance Scholarship Program (APS) is ETSU's largest merit based scholarship program for new freshmen students from Tennessee and border counties eligible for in-state tuition. These scholarships are awarded based on a combination of high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores for freshmen.

To be considered, you must:
1. Apply for admission to ETSU by the Thursday before the start of the term (you are applying for) and submit all required documents by the first day of the term to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Students whose documents are received after this date will not be considered for APS scholarships.
2. Send ETSU Office of Undergraduate Admissions your official high school transcripts.



3. Take ACT or SAT exam prior to March 1 deadline and send ETSU Office of Undergraduate Admissions your scores.

Between June 1 and August 15, you can search for available service positions.

  • Requirements:

    Students must have earned both the minimum GPA and the minimum ACT or SAT score to be eligible for the Academic Performance Scholarship.


    • Minimum 6th Semester GPA: 3.9 --and-- Minimum ACT: 30 or Comparable SAT score
    • Complete 75 APS service hours prior to the last day of finals each semester for the first 4 semesters of eligibility
    • Resident of TN --OR-- one of the following border counties NC: Ashe, Avery, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga, Yancey VA: Grayson, Lee, Scott, Washington
    • Entering freshman
    • Required SAT score is Math/Critical Reading sections only.
  • Renewal Requirements (Scholarships are renewable for a total of 8 semesters if the following requirements are met each semester):
    • Maintain a 2.5 term GPA,
    • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA,
    • Enroll in and pass at least 15 credit hours each semester (not including Learning Support courses), unless approved to enroll in less via appeal, and
    • Complete 75 APS service hours prior to the last day of finals each semester for the first 4 semesters of eligibility
  • Exclusions:
    • Scholarships are available for fall and spring terms only.
    • Students may not receive a Presidential APS if they are receiving any of the other scholarships listed with the Scholarship Policies (Select the Other Policies tab).
  • Award Distribution:
    • Scholarships are renewable for a total of 8 semesters if all requirements are met.
