GOOD STANDING
To remain in good standing, Changemaker Scholars who are receiving a scholarship are required to enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours each regular semester (fall, spring).
Changemaker Scholars are expected to be engaged and involved in the program, including enrolling in appropriate honors courses, regularly attending Honors College events, attending required meetings with Honors faculty, staff, and mentors, and fulfilling co-curricular requirements.
Changemaker Scholars are required to take CHNG 1008, CHNG 1908, SRVL 1020, PHIL 2020 or SOCI 2020, and 3-6 credits of CHNG 4958 or XXXX 4018.
Scholars are expected to participate in at least three of the experiential learning and high-impact practices listed below during their time in the program:
- Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities: This includes URCA sponsored grants and programs, REUs, and Independent Study or Research courses.
- Study abroad and study away: This includes all ETSU faculty-led study abroad courses and experiences, semester study abroad programs, alternative breaks, or other special programs or courses that include a significant international or domestic travel component.
- Internships: This includes any internship, whether paid or unpaid and whether taken as a course or not.
- Community-engaged learning: This includes alternative breaks, study abroads and study aways with a significant CEL component, and CEL designated classes.
In addition, Changemaker Scholars are expected to complete a minimum of ten hours of service each semester. The service requirement may be met by taking a community-engaged learning course, participating in ETSU-led service programs such as Service Saturdays or Alternative Breaks, or volunteering individually with a community organization. It is the student’s responsibility to track their service hours and report them to the director or assistant director of the program.
If conflicts arise that make it difficult or impossible to complete program requirements, delayed enrollments in honors courses, substitutions of other honors courses, or alternate assignments may be allowed. Students should provide a complete description of the conflict to the program director for approval.
PROBATION
If Changemaker Scholars fail to meet the semester GPA requirement or one of the above expectations, scholars may be placed on probation. During the initial semester of probation,
scholars retain their scholarships and continue to enroll in honors courses. If during a subsequent semester, a scholar fails to meet the requirements of the program, the scholar will lose their honors scholarship for the next semester but will continue to participate in the honors program. If a scholar fails to meet requirements for a third semester, the scholar will be dismissed from the program.
Semester GPA Requirements:
- First Semester - 2.75
- Second Semester - 3.00
- Third Semester - 3.15
- Fourth and Subsequent Semesters - 3.25
